Sermon Notes:

We first heard Ezra 8:31-23. These people were people of faith because they were willing to put God's reputation on the line.

Matthew 13:53-58

We Christians are like the Nazarenes. We "grew up" with Jesus and are by now very familiar with Him. Familiarity breeds contempt. The more earthy details we know about Jesus the more we are in danger of forgetting our marvelous King. We can't risk making Him too common.

The people of Nazareth saw Jesus as a mere man; they were pragmatic and couldn't believe that this little boy they'd grown up with had become an inspired teacher and doer of miracles. Perhaps, like the skeptics of today, they wanted to see Him as merely a "good teacher." Insiders saw the miracles and wisdom of Jesus and reasoned why it was impossible. Outsiders saw the same thing and imagined the possibilities.

When witnessing, we need to emphasize Jesus' miraculous deeds and divine character.

2 Corinthians 5:16-21 We are to regard no one from a merely fleshly view, we must endeavor to see them as spirit/soul/body.

Acts 14:8-10 We are called to walk in a faith that works real wonders - physical and spiritual miracles. We must be willing to see our faith realized or die.
